BMW’s latest electric bike concept limits its speed depending on where it is used

BMW recently showcased two new e-bike concepts with a unique system that limits how quickly people can ride in places with heavy foot traffic.

The bikes are only in concept form at the moment, but they offer three different speed modes, including one for driving in cities and on bike lanes (25 km / h), another for cycling on highways (45 km / h). and a final speed of 60 km / h for faster roads. The bikes also include radars to warn passengers when cars are approaching from the rear.

BMW plans to create this speed system through geofencing where bikes can circulate, which will require a lot of work before it can actually be started.

That said, if BMW can find a way to make this happen, geofencing could help keep bike paths a bit safer as electric bikes get more popular and faster.
