BMW will also build luxury X5 vehicles in China

BMW will manufacture its luxury vehicle X5, currently produced in the United States, said a spokesman for the German company.

“To meet the strong global demand for the BMW X5, we are expanding our global production capacity. We will add production of the BMW X5 in China, for the Chinese market,” the spokesperson said.

The X5 cars sold in China have so far been produced at the BMW plant in South Carolina.

The added manufacturing in China will not affect production volumes at the US plant, the company said.

BMW sold some 700,000 cars in China from January to September this year, almost 20% more than in 2020. That figure constitutes about a third of all sales in Europe, Asia and America.
