The Chicago Blackhawks placed star Patrick Kane, teammate Ryan Carpenter and defender Erik Gustafsson on the NHL’s COVID protocol Saturday morning.

The Blackhawks announced that all three players will miss practice Saturday. The team did not disclose whether it would play in Sunday’s game against visiting Detroit Red Wings.

The 32-year-old Kane has recorded five points (one goal, four assists) leading the team in five games this season. The former Hart Trophy wide receiver has 1,093 points (405 goals, 688 assists) in 1,034 career games since being selected by Chicago as the first overall pick in the 2007 NHL draft.

Carpenter, 30, has yet to score a point in two games this season.

Gustafsson, 29, has one point, one assist, in four games in 2021-22.

The Blackhawks called up Rockford forward Reese Johnson of the American Hockey League on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Johnson scored one goal and one assist in three games for the IceHogs.
