Bildu saves Sánchez’s anti-crisis decree

  • The ‘yes’ of the aberzale formation places the Government with 175 supports, compared to 172 ‘noes’

The Government is already breathing more calmly. EH Bildu will vote in favor of the royal decree law that contains the anti-crisis measures and will allow the Executive to avoid the catastrophe that, for a few hours, has feared the vote this Thursday. “We will act with the responsibility that we owe to the citizenry and today we will approve this decreebecause the people cannot and should not be the ones to pay the consequences of the serious errors of this Government”, has sentenced the spokesperson for the formation, Mertxe Aizpurua.

With these “serious errors”, the deputy from Bildu referred to the alleged espionage by the National Intelligence Center (CNI) on more than 60 leaders and activists of the Catalan and Basque independence movement during 2017 and 2019. In this sense, Aizpurua has warned what do they do”another exercise of responsibility“, but in exchange for “that responsibility” and “respect” being mutual. “Mutual, Mr. Bolaños. And spying on those of us who allow this government to advance is neither showing respect nor showing responsibility towards the citizenry”, he continued addressing the Minister of the Presidency, Felix Bolanos.

At the beginning of the week, Bildu positioned himself in favor of supporting the royal decree law. However, the scandal of the ‘Catalangate‘ and the Executive’s attitude, which they have repeatedly criticized, led them to threaten to vote against it. However, Aizpurua has stressed that this gesture is “for the people” and because it contains “good measures to protect those who need them most.” Even so, she has demanded “more ambitious” measures from the Government.

With the yes of the aberzale formation, the Government would count, ‘a priori’, with a total, right now, of 175 supports: PSOE (120), United We Can (33, plus their deputy in the Mixed Meri Pita), PNV (6), EH Bildu (5), PDECat (4), Más País (2), Compromís (1), Nueva Canarias (1), Regionalist Party of Cantabria (1) and Teruel Exists (1).

In the abstention, for sure, is Canarian Coalition (1). Y in the ‘no’ PP (88), Vox (52), ERC (13), Ciudadanos (9), Junts (4), CUP (2), the two former UPN deputies, Foro Asturias (1) and the former orange parliamentarian Pablo Cambronero could be aligned. Total, 172 votes against. In this way, with more ‘yeses’ than ‘noes’, the Executive would save the approval of the royal decree law, although by the minimum.
