President Joe Biden to toughen vaccination requirements against it on Thursday COVID-19 for federal workers and contractors, with the goal of boosting vaccination and curbing the growing delta variant.
The last: Just weeks after ordering federal workers to be vaccinated or face rigorous face mask testing and protocols, Biden will sign a new order to require vaccination of employees, and contractors doing business with the government federal.
- Biden’s overall goal is to reduce the number of unvaccinated Americans, which is currently hovering around 80 million, said Jen Psaki, the White House press secretary.
- Biden is also expected to come up with plans to increase testing for the virus in schools, in an effort to keep them open safely. Other measures are not ruled out.
And now that? Federal workers and contractors will have 75 days to get fully vaccinated. Those who fail to do so will be referred to their agency’s human resources department for advice and disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- Neither federal employees nor contractors will be able to opt for the option of getting tested instead of getting vaccinated.
- Biden’s order includes exceptions for workers or contractors who cannot get vaccinated for religious or medical reasons, Psaki said.
