Here are some terms and definitions used by the BC Wildfire Service to describe wildfires.

Contents: A control line around the fire and associated hotspots has been completed and the fire is expected to stop spreading.

Control line: A constructed or natural barrier around a fire that has been treated with retardant or water that is used to control or contain a fire.

Remnant Fire: A fire that goes undetected or remains dormant for some time after it is first started, such as a fire caused by lightning.

Initial attack: The initial action taken by the first firefighting personnel to arrive on the scene in hopes of stopping the spread of a fire.

Fire interface: A fire that has the potential to burn buildings and forest fuel or vegetation simultaneously.

cleaning: Extinguish a fire after having controlled it.
