He says in a statement that Friday’s surgery was successful and Horgan is in a good mood.

The statement says more updates will be issued in the coming days.

Horgan announced Thursday that he had noticed a lump on his neck and that he had been in and out of the hospital for tests that revealed a growth that required biopsy surgery.

The 62-year-old prime minister has said he intends to stay on the job, but appointed Public Safety Minister Mike Farnworth to serve as deputy prime minister as a precaution.

Horgan said he has been to this place before, having survived bladder cancer in his 40s.

“It is important, I think, that people understand that this is not the first time that I have experienced a health problem like this,” Horgan said at a news conference Thursday.

“It is the extraordinary efforts of our public health system that give me complete confidence that everything will be fine for me.”
