BC Parents Urged to Register Children for COVID-19 Vaccine as US Green Light Pfizer | The Canadian News

Provincial health officials are encouraging parents to register their children for a COVID-19 vaccine, as one of the top three vaccines about to be approved in Canada.

On Friday, the US FDA granted an emergency clearance for Pfizer’s vaccine to be used in children ages five to 11.

In Canada, the Pfizer vaccine has so far only gained approval for children 12 years and older.

Health Canada is reviewing the company’s application for its pediatric vaccine, but approval is not expected until at least mid-to-late November.

“It is vitally important that they go through their process methodically, but we are preparing to do so,” said British Columbia Health Minister Adrian Dix.

Parents cannot yet book a vaccination appointment for children under 12, but can register them for when reservations open in the province. Get website vaccinated.

Pfizer’s pediatric vaccine is one-third the strength of the dose given to adults and adolescents, and in the US it will be given as a two-dose series, with doses given three weeks apart.
