Attempted murder in Old Montreal: arrested in the Caribbean two years after the crime

Two years after an attempted murder by firearm committed in Old Montreal, SPVM investigators pinned the alleged perpetrator of the attack in the Caribbean, more than 4000 km from the metropolis.

The authorities have once again demonstrated that justice has a long arm with the arrest of the 29-year-old suspect in Trinidad and Dobago, located very close to Venezuela.

His identity has not yet been publicly revealed.

The latter was pinned on Wednesday, before being repatriated to Montreal for his appearance. He was to be formally charged Thursday with attempted murder and discharging a firearm, in particular.

The crime he is accused of occurred three days before Christmas, in December 2019. Around 3:20 a.m., two groups of individuals who did not know each other allegedly had an altercation on Notre-Dame Street West, between the boulevard Saint-Laurent and rue Saint-Sulpice.

At some point, one of the men allegedly drew a weapon before opening fire in the direction of the victim, hitting him in the back.

The author of the shots would then have fled on foot with his friends, then would have left the scene in a vehicle.

The 28-year-old victim, an uneventful man, survived his injuries but required multiple surgeries. He will retain permanent physical damage from the attack.

According to the SPVM, the suspect in this case would have quickly left the country after the attempted murder in order to escape the police.

Following a lengthy investigation involving the authorities of Trinidad and Tobago, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Canada Border Services Agency and Transport Canada, the individual was able to be traced to this small state. of the Caribbean, nine hours by plane from Montreal.
