Planning has begun to bring back Art in the Park after the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of the popular event two years in a row.

“It’s going to be the best in years,” said event co-chair Allan Kidd. “We have had a couple of years off. Lots of time to review each process and really refine things. And we are taking it to a new level with technology. “

Art in the Park, one of Ontario’s largest outdoor arts and crafts shows, is scheduled for June 4-5, 2022 at Willistead Park.

The Rotary Club of Windsor (1918), which runs the event, is now accepting applications from exhibitors. The deadline to apply is January 31st. Selected candidates will be notified at the end of March.

Kidd said organizers will use technology to streamline the event as a way to address COVID-19 concerns.

E-tickets will be available online, although people can still pay at the door if they don’t have a smartphone. The organization also plans to conduct cashless transactions at some kiosks.

The brochure previously delivered to the door will be removed in favor of an interactive website.

“We would like to have no contact if possible,” Kidd said. “That is the goal.”

The money raised from the event will go towards the restoration of Willistead Manor and the charitable projects of the Rotary Club. Kidd said people sometimes forget that the event is a charity fundraiser.

“Art in the Park is a festival, it is wonderful,” he said. “We think of it as a gift to our community. But it is a fundraiser. We are a Rotary club. We are all volunteers and we are trying to do good things. So we want to defeat poverty, disease and illiteracy. Every penny we earn, we pay it back. “
