Armed Surrey woman shot, injured by police

A Surrey woman was seriously injured by police gunfire on Tuesday afternoon.

Surrey RCMP received calls about a woman with a weapon in the 10500-block of King George Boulevard just after noon.

Officers found a woman who was “reportedly still in possession of the weapon,” a police statement said

During an interaction between the woman and the police, shots were fired by officers and the woman was injured,” according to the statement.

The woman was taken to hospital.

BC’s Independent Investigations Office, an agency that investigates police actions, has been tapped to look into the shooting. Surrey RCMP’s general investigation unit is also conducting a simultaneous but separate Criminal Code probe.
