Argimon sees “likely” a seventh wave of covid

The ‘conseller’ of Health, Josep Maria Argimon, sees “likely” that there will be a seventh wave of covid-19 but warns that it cannot be predicted “when” it will occur or “what virulence” it will be depending on the dominant variant and how it behaves.

In an attention to the media in Granollers, Argimon has bet for continuing to “normalize everyday life” while maintaining surveillance of the virus.

In this sense, he believes that the number of cases “is not the most important” when monitoring the current situation, but rather their severity and the “repercussion” they have on the plants and on the ICUs of hospitals.

The ‘conseller’ warns that the pandemic “is giving a truce, but it is here” and that there are still many aspects of the virus that remain unknown.

rise of the virus

Catalonia is registering an increase in cases in recent days, now that there are practically no measures left – the mask is only mandatory in transport and in health centers or residences. This is shown by the update of covid-19 data, although now tests are not carried out on the general population, so the reading of the indicators cannot be as it was a few months ago.

It is also certified by the BIOCOMSC research group of the UPC. One of its researchers, Enric Álvarez, has stated in ACN that for several weeks there has been an increase in cases and hospitalizations in the emergency room or ward that at the moment is not noticeable in the ICUs. There are now 940 patients admitted to the ward for covid-19 and 31 are critical, a number that has remained stable in recent days.

Asked about this situation, the ‘minister’ stated that it is “very important” to be attentive to the most serious and critical patients and pointed out that the number of people in the ICUs has remained stable in recent days. Argimon has stressed that the evolution of the pandemic must be monitored day by day through the sentinel system that they are implementing.

The head of Salut has recalled that the pandemic is not over and that we have to see what happens in the coming months, especially from autumn, given that the coronavirus is a seasonal virus.
