When it comes to the Internet, and its penchant for turning anything into something—celebrities have to tread carefully, if they want to avoid being the center of attention.
Spotted on a beach in the Spanish archipelago, Pugh was photographed sunbathing, drinking cocktails and swimming with her friend and ex midsummer co-star, Will Poulter.
Were there any PDAs on display? No. Did this stop Twitter from assuming the couple was a couple? Also not.
But why were they so quick to assume that Pugh was no longer dating Zach Braff? Well, many thought the images of the couple spending time together were pretty flirty. And of course, the internet is quick to jump on any potential relationship for Pugh that doesn’t involve Braff.
It’s no lie that many online aren’t fans of their three-year relationship, given that Pugh is 26 and Braff is 47, leaving a 21-year age gap.
“Within eight minutes of posting the photo, I had about 70% of the comments insulting and being horrible and basically bullying someone on my page,” the actress said in the video.
“This is the first time in my entire life on Instagram that I have to disable comments on my page. I have never been an Instagram page that likes that toxic vibe. I will not allow that behavior on my page. I do not mean that”.
Highlighting the fact that she’s been working since she was 17, she added: “I’ll underline this fact: I’m 24. I don’t need you to tell me who I should and shouldn’t love, and I would.” Never in my life, never, ever, tell anyone who they can or cannot love.”
“It’s not your place, and it really has nothing to do with you. If those rules are something you don’t like, please stop following me, because the abuse you’re throwing at him is abuse you’re throwing at me.”
As far as we know, Pugh and Braff are still a couple. And while Twitter has had a field day on its beach day with Poulter, all we hope is that he’s making the most of the Ibiza sunshine and taking a well-deserved vacation with whoever he wants.
