Another promoter disputes the organization of the Pedralbes Festival

Concert Studio, the promoter that created the Jardins de Pedralbes Festival in 2013, has had an opponent, a company that has requested the use of these public gardens to carry out a musical event on the same dates, the months of June and July, starting this year. This was confirmed this Monday by the Barcelona City Council, which, consequently, according to council sources, has been forced to call a competition that guarantees free competition.

This process is now in the pleadings phase, which will end on February 15, giving way to the deadline for submitting projects. The council hopes to be able to grant the use of the gardens to the chosen company in March, either Concert Studio or the one that has applied to organize a new sample.

Long planned tours

The contest enters the scene at a time when the Jardins de Pedralbes Festival has sold more than 30,000 tickets for the 17 concerts scheduled for this summer, including those of artists such as Patti Smith, Madness, The Beach Boys, Alan Parsons Live Project or Il Divo. Performances subject to tours scheduled many months, even years, in advance, especially considering the inclemencies of the pandemic period, a period in which Pedralbes has continued to be celebrated, adapting the capacity to the protocols. The opening concert, by James Blunt (June 7), it was signed in 2019, and tickets were then put on sale, all before the arrival of covid-19.

The use of the gardens by the festival derives from the agreement signed by the city council, which ended in 2020, was extended for one year, and which Concert Studio hoped to update in 2022. “For this reason, we continue with the celebration of the festival and we will present ourselves to the public consultation, but we are also going to deliver allegations about the conditions set to maintain the level of quality and attention to the public of previous editions”, the sample has indicated.

Reduction of public use

Concert Studio regrets that the conditions presented by the city council prevent “maintain the level of quality and attention to the public of previous editions”, since “they limit the space dedicated to the Village and the gastronomic area”, which had been doubled in 2021. Reducing the Village, points out the festival, “would mean canceling the two stages where emerging musicians have their first opportunity”, while limiting the space dedicated to gastronomy “would generate queues that we have not seen so far”.

For the promoter, having the entire space of the Jardins de Pedralbes “guarantees that there are no overcrowding and that all attendees have space in which to sit and enjoy the magical setting of the Pedralbes gardens”. On the contrary, reducing it would go “against health security and the comfort and good care of the attendees & rdquor ;. In its nine editions, the festival has welcomed artists such as Bob Dylan, Tom Jones, Sting, Woody Allen, Rufus Wainwright, Mariah Carey, Elvis Costello and Charles Aznavour.
