Angels vs White Sox Betting Preview

starting pitchers

Michael Lorenzen (2-1, 2.94 ERA): Michael Lorenzen was primarily a reliever with the Cincinnati Reds before the Angels signed him and stretched him out again as a starter. The results have been mostly good so far. Lorenzen has gotten two quality starts in his first three opportunities. Four of the five runs he allowed in 2022 came in a start when he visited the Houston Astros on April 18.

Dallas Keuchel (1-2, 9:00 ERA): After a decent early outing against the Seattle Mariners (five innings, three earned runs), Keuchel was hit by the Cleveland Guardians to the tune of 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and a walk in just one job entry. Keuchel again blanked the Kansas City Royals in four innings Tuesday, but was likely pulled early due to his high pitch count (88) as a result of a control foul (five walks).

Angels vs White Sox Predictions and Predictions

Our side and total predictions are based on our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite selection in all markets.

money line analysis

The Angels should build a huge lead against Dallas Keuchel and never look back on Sunday afternoon.

Los Angeles’ lineup is fifth in runs per game (5.01) and third in batting average against lefties (.269) in 2022. Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout went 0-for-8 as a unit at the plate on Saturday. Hard to fathom considering they were a combined 19-for-51 (.372) over the previous seven days with four homers and nine RBIs.

The Angels returning to the win column start with their best hitters having rebounding performances. Keuchel has looked vulnerable in each of his first three starts of the season, and it’s fair to wonder if the 34-year-old left-hander has missed a step after pitching with a 5.28 ERA in 2021. He’s backed by an underperforming bullpen. which is 21 per ERA (3.74) this season.

Michael Lorenzen counters for the Halos, and he should have no problem negotiating with a South Siders lineup that ranks 27th in runs per game (3.27) and batting average (.212) this year. Behind him is a Los Angeles bullpen that has its best guys ready to go after a big outing by Jamie Barria (three innings in relief) on Saturday.

Raisel Iglesias is perfect 5-for-5 in save opportunities, and middle relievers Aaron Loup, Oliver Ortega and Ryan Tepera have combined to post a 1.42 ERA in 2022.

Trend bettors should note that the White Sox are 14-41 in their last 55 games as losers, while the Angels are 36-17 in their last 53 games against teams with losing records.

Prediction: Angels money line (-112 at BetRivers)

Over/Under Analysis

Los Angeles’ lineup is truly dangerous, as they currently lead the majors in OPS (.760). After a shocking shutout at Chicago on Saturday, this unit should be ready to bounce back against the White Sox’s 16th-ranked pitching staff by opposing OPS (.674).

Taylor Ward’s emergence in 2022 has been a welcome surprise for the Angels, and he has 11 hits in his last 26 at-bats (.423) with four home runs and 12 RBIs. David Fletcher has three hits in seven at-bats in this series after missing the last two weeks due to injury.

The South Siders lineup is not without its talent, as Tim Anderson scored his eighth multi-hit game of the year on Saturday. Luis Robert driving in three RBIs on Saturday after a lousy start at the plate has to inspire confidence.

Neither starter should be expected to throw deep in this one, and bullpens are ranked in the bottom half based on ERA this year. With the wind blowing center-left, it looks like there are enough pieces in place for an Over.

Prediction: Over 8.5 (-115 at DraftKings)

best bet

Watching Mike Trout go 0-for-4 at the plate like he did on Saturday is like watching a unicorn, but in a bad way. Silencing the three-time former AL MVP in this case would be like lightning striking twice, so oddsmakers should back Trout for busting in the aftermarkets.

Not all sportsbooks offer “total bases” betting, but they can be lucrative. Taking control of Trout at 1.5 bases means he can hit two singles or get an extra-base hit of any kind, including a home run (walks don’t count).

Trout is 17-for-48 (.348) for life with two home runs against Keuchel, and a combined 17-for-41 (.415) with four home runs against White Sox relievers Kendall Graveman and Reynaldo Lopez.

This line looks easy to clear for a player of Trout’s caliber.

Choose: Miek Trout Over 1.5 total bases (+110 at Caesars)
