An electoral budget, according to the opposition

The opposition parties believe that the budget presented by Minister Eric Girard is an electioneer, in particular because of the amount of $500 that will be paid to a majority of Quebecers.

The parties denounce the lack of targeted measures, which could have helped families in need.

We also criticize the government’s lack of vision, since no measures have been announced to fight climate change or to counter the housing crisis.

“With his check, there are some who will buy ‘New Balance high performance’, and there are others who will perhaps manage to buy shoes at a discount for their children when the grocery store goes be paid,” illustrates Manon Massé of Québec solidaire.

Carlos J. Leitão, former Minister of Finance and Liberal MP, believes that by sending money to so many people, the risk of overheating is very present.

The leader of the Parti Québécois for his part affirmed that “the check is used to mask the lack of leadership of the government.”

Éric Duhaime, leader of the Conservative Party, described this budget as paternalistic.
