AMLO will present plan against inflation on May 4

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador asserted that as part of his anti-inflationary plan, his government seeks to promote, with the support of Private Industry, a guaranteed price on 24 basic products, for which he rejected that a control will be imposed on the cost of products of the basic basket.

It is not a price control, we are going to guarantee fair prices in the basics, a guaranteed price in corn, beans, rice, milk. It’s part of the plan, “he said at a morning press conference.

Thus, he announced that next Wednesday, May 4, the complete plan will be detailed to deal with the problem of famine caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

“A fair price is a contribution from the producers, distributors and large department stores that are going to help. We are defining that there be 24 basic products so that the most humble people do not suffer and that they are guaranteed the basics at a fair price”, he explained.

Likewise, he thanked producers and distributors who “have been sensitive” to the situation and who, he said, have been available. “We are reaching an agreement with large food producers and with distributors and they are cooperating, almost all of them are agreeing to help,” she stressed.

The president added that his proposal focuses on having an “equal” price for a basic basket, so that it can be purchased at the same price in Mexico City, Tijuana, Valladolid or Tapachula.

Reiterating that there has been a disposition of “all those who have to do with us being able to lower prices for consumers without imposing anything,” the head of the federal Executive indicated that negotiations continue with all sectors, who have participated in the meetings called by the head of the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit, Rogelio Ramírez de la O and other public servants in order to outline the anti-inflation plan.

Meanwhile, López Obrador again called on small producers to be self-sufficient in food production, especially in corn and beans, since, he said, it is another way to fight inflation.

“Exhort, respectfully call the peasants to plant corn and beans, the basics because the scarcity or inflation is faced with self-consumption, not only with commercial production; if we are self-sufficient in food we will win because buying beans and corn is not the same as having them at home”, he warned.

In this sense, and after highlighting the support that, he said, comes directly to the peasants, the president maintained that they will expand the free fertilizer program.

“We have examples that support for the countryside works. Guerrero, for example, to La Montaña de Guerrero, where fertilizers are delivered, last year there was a very good production of basics, especially corn, where it was planted for self-consumption, which is a tradition, ”he said.

On the other hand, he acknowledged that food inflation is having a strong impact on Mexico, unlike fuel and energy where the price of gasoline, diesel, LP gas and electricity is less than what citizens of the United States have to pay. United and Europe.
