President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador reported that the application of summer time in Mexico could come to an end next October because the impact on health it generates is greater than the economic savings obtained by lower consumption of electrical energy.
Because the savings are minimal and the damage to health is considerable, there are many possibilities to remove it,” the president anticipated in his usual morning conference.
The issue will have to be thoroughly explored, he announced, especially because of the damage it causes to health.
It has been proven that health is damaged, and besides, the savings are minimal”, AMO insisted.
The conclusion of the studies carried out in this regard, he assured, is that “the damage to health is greater than the importance of economic savings,” which is 1,000 million pesos a year.
“We could make, with everyone’s participation, a commitment to save (electricity),” he said.
There are two opinions on the subject, he explained, which will be released for analysis.
Because his policy consists of “commanding by obeying,” he said, if the majority opinion expressed through a survey is in favor or against maintaining the application of summer time, there will no longer be a citizen consultation on the matter.
“It took us time, but we already have the complete information.”
