Álvarez Pallete and Isla make their debut in the patronage of the Fundació La Caixa


The president of Telefonica, Jose Maria Alvarez Pallete, and the former president of Inditex, Paul Island, Together with Isabel Gabarró and Joaquín Gay de Montellá, they have participated for the first time in a meeting of the board of trustees of the La Caixa Banking Foundationheld at the CosmoCaixa Science Museum in Barcelona.

It is the first meeting since the appointments were made along with the renewal of the president, Isidre Faine, for four more years. Álvarez Pallete, Isabel Gabarró, Joaquín Gay de Montellá and Pablo Isla replace Cesar Alierta, Salvador Alemany, Antoni Fitó and Javier Solana, whose mandates ended due to temporary expiration.

Victims of war

During the session, among other matters, the initiatives that the entity has been carrying out in recent weeks to support those affected by the war in Ukraine. Notable among these initiatives is the agreement with the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration to carry out the Ukraine Family Welcoming Project, aimed at organizing and coordinating the network of refugee welcoming families. A project for which they have already received more than 2,260 requests from families. The ”la Caixa” plans to allocate an investment of 2.5 million euros to the start-up and development of this initiative during the next year.

This project with the Ministry joins the different initiatives that the La Caixa Foundation is promoting to support people affected by the conflict in Ukraine from different angles, among which the contributions of 1 million euros to UNHCR and 1, 5 million euros to the work carried out by the Red Cross.

Employment creation

The Board of Trustees has also analyzed the evolution of the Foundation’s job creation programme, incorporateswhich in the first quarter of 2022 has generated more than 8,800 jobs, 17.25% more than in the same period of the previous year, also enabling the creation of 376 self-employment projects.

It has also tackled the new aid program for social projects of the entity, which this year includes territorial calls, and which has increased its allocation to 45 million euros, doubling the budget of the previous year.

The La Caixa Foundation has a global budget of 510 million euros in 2022. The entity controls the Criteria holding company, which, in turn, is the main shareholder of CaixaBank, among other holdings.
