“Sure we can see those tariffs, but I’m giving you the … strategic lens through which we need to look,” Tai said at a conference organized by the Milken Institute in Los Angeles.

“The question is what do we do with them,” he added.

Tai said any tools that are put in place to tackle inflation should not undermine the medium-term goals of building a more resilient and enduring global economy that views people not only as consumers but also as workers.
