Air arrivals of foreigners exceed pre-pandemic figures

During last March, one million 951,684 foreign travelers arrived in Mexico, which represented an increase of 0.1%, compared to the same month of 2019, according to figures from the Migration Policy Unit (UPM).

People of American origin represented 70% of the total, adding up to 1,364,285 million, 19.2% more than a couple of years ago, which is why they are consolidated as the main source market for tourists to Mexico. 199,080 travelers arrived from Canada, a figure that is 42.1% lower, due to the fact that the restrictive measures that were imposed to avoid contagion began to be relaxed.

Colombia, as the third issuing country, added the historic figure of 63,889 travelers, which represented an increase of 85.1% and greater connectivity with low-cost airlines that had not previously explored the market with Mexico.

Regarding these figures, the Anáhuac Tourism Competitiveness and Research Center (Cicotur), directed by Francisco Madrid, reported: For the first time since the pandemic began, a positive differential is recorded in air tourist arrivals compared to the same month in 2019 (0.1 %). The top ten issuer markets are getting closer and closer to the pre-pandemic situation.
