After 180,000 teasers, The Matrix Resurrections receives a full-length official trailer

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. launched an innovative website that allows users to generate one of 180,000 possible teaser variations for The resurrections of the Matrix.

Now, the studio has released the first full-length official trailer for fans to take a closer look at.

The trailer begins with Neo (once again played by Toronto’s own Keanu Reeves) going through therapy with an unnamed character (How i met your motherNeil Patrick Harris) before going into another simulation. All the time, there is a lot of callbacks to the original Matrix trilogy, which includes the now iconic red and blue pills, black cats, and martial arts fights.

Carrie-Anne Moss of Burbaby, BC also returns as Trinity, while franchise newcomer Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman) appears to be playing a younger version of Morpheus, the role originated by Laurence Fishburne. Jessica Henwick (Iron fist) also appears as an unnamed armed character, while Jonathan Groff (Mindhunter) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico) appear in similar mysterious roles.

Notably, Resurrections will be the first Matrix film since 2003 Revolutions. However, the Wachowski sisters, who wrote and directed the original trilogy, have also worked on multiple video games that expanded the Matrix universe. It is not clear to what extent these factors could influence Resurrections.

Co-written and directed by Lana Wachowski, The Matrix Resurrections is scheduled to hit theaters on December 22.
