Active investigation underway at the Windsor hotel

Windsor, Ontario. –

Windsor police officers along with the forensic unit were at the scene of a shooting investigation at the Lexington Hotel.

Sergeant Dave Tennent told CTV News the incident was called shortly after midnight Sunday morning.

Tennent says the Major Crimes Unit is in the initial stages of the investigation, noting that police believe there is no threat to the public.

Danny Williams from Toronto was staying at a motel next door Saturday night when he heard a loud noise around midnight.

“Last night I was in my room sleeping and I heard four shots,” Williams told CTV News that it was terrifying, but he could tell from the sound that took place across the street. “It was boom, boom, boom, then one more boom!”

Williams says he’s not sure what happened, but investigators requested the footage from the motel’s surveillance camera.

“I woke up this morning and saw that everything was recorded, that’s all,” adds Williams, “No one knows what happened.”

Investigators were surveying neighbors along Byng Road, which is taped from Division Road to Moxlay Avenue.

No further details have been shared at this time, police say more information is expected to be released on Monday.
