“Among the charges, there are two attempted murders, but also a conspiracy to murder,” said Mr.and Annie Barbeau, from the prosecution, Wednesday in the Youth Division of the Court of Quebec in Montreal.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named because he is a minor, appeared briefly on Wednesday under the shocked gaze of his parents, in relation to a violent attack that occurred the day before in front of Saint-Thomas secondary school, in Pointe -Claire.

Around 2 p.m. Tuesday, two groups of young people clashed. But during the fight, the accused allegedly got his hands on a knife and stabbed a 16-year-old boy.

Rushed to hospital, he was still fighting for his life on Wednesday evening. A second teenager, aged 15, was also injured.

Panicked

“There were blows, struggle and battle, confided to the Newspaper a student who witnessed the scene. It started on the sidewalk and continued on the street. »

According to him, at least two people intervened to put an end to the alter-cation, including at least one teacher from the school.

“When they were fleeing [les garçons impliqués] were definitely freaked out or scared because they were screaming […] Oh sh*t ! Oh sh*t ! “, she reports.

A dozen people were present during the altercation, and some even filmed the scene.

According to our information, this led to the arrest of two other young people, who were released on a promise to appear.

Total shock

The teenager who appeared detained will return to court on Thursday morning for his release investigation.

But despite the seriousness of the charges, he can take comfort in the fact that in light of the evidence, the Crown felt there was no need to seek that he be subject to an adult sentence.

This means that if found guilty, he is at most likely to be placed in closed custody for two or three years.

“It’s a total shock, not only for my client who had never had any trouble with the law, but for everyone, it upsets the lives of loved ones, parents, but also the young people involved”, for his part commented Mand Tom Pentefountas, defense.

The school, which was closed on Wednesday, is expected to reopen on Thursday, despite parents’ concerns for the safety of their children. However, the Lester B. Pearson School Service Center advised the Newspaper that psychological support will be offered in all its establishments.

Dramas involving teens

Teenagers targeted by stabbing attacks have been particularly numerous in recent months. Among the victims is Jannai Dopwell-Bailey, 16, stabbed to death on the site of his school, in Côte-des-Neige–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, last October.

Several other attacks were recorded, but did not prove fatal.
