A sixth Conservative MP from Quebec supports Charest

The majority of Quebec Conservative troops in the House of Commons now support Jean Charest. Richard Lehoux became, on Friday, the sixth member out of ten, within the Quebec caucus, to line up behind him.

The member for Beauce confirmed his support in a press release, after surveying members of the Conservative Party of Canada in his part of the country.

“Members want the next leader to be progressive, inclusive and experienced. In addition, they want someone who knows Quebec and the regions well and who can support any approach that helps improve the well-being of Beauce,” he said.

“In my opinion, Mr. Charest is the right man for the job and will be just as much to lead the CPC to victory in the next election,” added Mr. Lehoux.

The deputy Beauceron therefore adds his voice to those of Dominique Vien, Gérard Deltell, Alain Rayes, Bernard Généreux and Joël Godin.

Three deputies in reflection

MPs Pierre Paul-Hus (Charlesbourg-Haute-Saint-Charles) and Richard Martel (Chicoutimi-Le Fjord) are still pursuing their reflection, we have been confirmed in their respective cabinets.

Same thing for the deputy Jacques Gourde (Lévis-Lotbinière) who has not yet officially pronounced, we insisted in his office on Friday, despite certain articles evoking his support. “It’s a mistake,” we were told.

Because of his current role within the party, the deputy leader and political lieutenant of Quebec, Luc Berthold, should impose neutrality on himself, we were told.
