A messy mix of precipitation is expected for Toronto and much of southwestern Ontario

Environment Canada issued a special meteorological declaration for Toronto and much of southwestern Ontario late Sunday afternoon as the region braces for a messy mix of rainfall on Monday.

In Toronto, a few inches of snow are expected in the morning, before turning into freezing rain or freezing drizzle in the afternoon. The icy precipitation is expected to turn into a drizzle Monday night or overnight.

“Untreated surfaces can turn icy as a result of freezing rain or freezing drizzle,” Environment Canada said.

The federal agency is forecasting a maximum of 1 C in Toronto on Monday, though it will feel more like -9 C in the morning due to wind gusts of up to 40 km / h.
