A month after the announcement of its entry into force in Quebec, a first stranglehold bracelet was installed on a violent man.

Public Security Minister Geneviève Guilbault made the announcement on Twitter on Thursday evening.

“An offender under control, a woman relieved. More to come. A giant step in the fight against violence against women,” said the Minister.

Quebec is the first jurisdiction in the country and the seventh in the world to implement this electronic device.

The purpose of the anti-reconciliation bracelet is to give female victims of domestic and sexual violence a sense of security.

Functioning thanks to geolocation, the bracelet allows the police to intervene if an offender enters a determined perimeter.
