76 bank accounts frozen since the invocation of the Emergency Measures Act

At least 76 bank accounts linked to the convoys have been frozen since the Trudeau government invoked the Emergency Measures Act last Monday, representing an estimated $3.2 million.

No figures had been provided by the government before Saturday morning, during an exceptional press briefing held by several federal ministers.

On Friday, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland revealed for the first time that institutions had indeed applied the exceptional powers granted under the Act.

Federal Minister of Public Security Marco Mendicino highlighted the “progress made” on the ground in front of Parliament by the police forces.

$20 million in aid

As the streets began to be increasingly cleared in downtown Ottawa, the government announced $20 million in assistance for businesses that have suffered the consequences of the blockade that has hit the city in the last three weeks.
