Members of the CSN-affiliated Syndicat des travailleuses des CPE de Montréal et Laval have already voted in favor of a mandate of 10 strike days to be used at an appropriate moment.

The work action might be averted depending on the outcome of a conciliation meeting scheduled for Thursday between the union and management.

The announcement of the strike action is an effort to increase pressure on management to reach an agreement. The union said it “had no choice but to organize now, in the event of a negative result” in conciliation.

Contracts with Quebec’s daycares were settled provincewide last winter. However, management for the centers that will be targeted by the strike were not part of those negotiations and want to reach their own settlement.

Of particular concern are clauses related to the length of the workweek and the selection committee.
