On Wednesday, December 1, 2021, with 14 votes in favor, 5 votes against and 4 abstentions on Colima local congress decriminalized abortion up to week 12 of gestation and became the first federative entity of the country in recognize pregnant people.
This decision implies withdrawing from the local Penal Code the Voluntary termination of pregnancy as a crime, as well as initiating structural reforms in all spheres involved to guarantee women and pregnant people access to that right safely and free of charge.
