A collision between a gas tanker and a dump truck Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. on Hwy. 56 and Golf Club Road in Binbrook has led to road closures and an estimated 500 to 1,000 liters of fuel spill into a ditch, according to the Hamilton Fire Department.
Hamilton Police had he estimated the volume of the spill much higher in an early morning tweet.
The fire department dispatched its HAZMAT team to the scene along with six other trucks to deal with an “actively leaking” tank. There were no injuries as a result of the collision.
A fire department spokesperson told The Spectator in an email that crews “quickly contained the spill and placed absorbent barriers in the trench to contain the fuel.”
Police closed roads and intersections in the area: Fletcher Road and Golf Club Road, Hwy. 56 and Guyatt Road, Hwy. 56 and Golf Club Road, and Henderson Road and Golf Club Road.
Police tweeted Monday afternoon that roads would be closed for an extended period.
