5-year-old boy found behind the wheel of his parents’ car: OPP – Kingston | The Canadian News

A young man from Central Frontenac decided that he needed to drive himself to the store.

When Frontenac OPP arrived shortly after 7 a.m. Monday morning, they found that a five-year-old boy had driven his family’s vehicle into a neighbor’s hay field.

“The parents were already there and so was the neighbor,” says Const, Frontenac OPP Media Relations Officer. Richard Martin.

“What had happened is that the neighbor had seen these lights in his hay field and called the OPP. Then he went to investigate and met with his neighbors. “

Police say the boy decided to get behind the wheel to go to the store to buy a pink toy tractor for his little sister.

The boy was unharmed, but the vehicle suffered minor damage.

“Oh, this could have been quite dangerous,” says Martin.

“It didn’t make it to the main road, from the driveway it went straight into the field, but it could have been substantially dangerous. I don’t know if the boy was wearing a seat belt or not, but he fell down a ditch and hit a small tree. “

The OPP is using this as a warning and would like to remind parents to watch their children at all times and keep car keys out of their reach.
