43% of Mexicans suffer to reach the end of the month

In the country, 43% of people aged 18 years and over said they had the expectation of not having the capacity to cover the expenses of the month, a situation that directly affected their state of mind.

According to the results of the first National Survey of Self-Reported Well-being (Enbiare) 2021, of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), more than a third of the population (35.9%) had to borrow to cover current household expenses in items such as purchase of pantry, rent or rent, water, electricity, gas, telephone, tuition or medicine.

While the expectation of not being able to pay for the month’s expenses (subjective poverty indicator), affected 43.4% of the adult population, while 11.3% expressed uncertainty in this regard.

In this context, the Enbiare, which allows answering questions about how aspects of personal, family, work and social life influence the level of subjective well-being of the adult population, highlights that 14.8% of the adult population lost their job or business in the last 12 months (between July 2020 and July 2021), without being able to recover it.

Therefore, having been left without work affects more than the expectation of not being able to cover the expenses of the month, however, and especially emotionally, the fact of having borrowed to defray expenses at some point in the last 12 months has a greater impact, he said. the Inegi.

Women, less satisfied

The measurement also found that despite the average satisfaction with life of the adult population in Mexico is 8.45, on a scale of 0 to 10, where 10 means maximum satisfaction, women feel less spirited (8.37) than men (8.53).

The proportion of the population with symptoms of depression amounts to 15.4% of the adult population, but among women it reaches 19.5% and in men 10.7%.

Regarding anxiety symptoms, it was found that 19.3% of the adult population has severe anxiety symptoms, while another 31.3% had minimal anxiety symptoms.

In men, these indicators were 15 and 29.7%, however, for the female population the percentages rose to 23.2 and 32.8, respectively.

Likewise, 8.9% of the adult population with a partner admits not having a good relationship with her, and it is striking that among women 11.9% of cases do not recognize a positive aspect of their partner versus 6.4% of men, so that there is a greater manifest dissatisfaction on the part of women.

Violence

When talking about life and its environment, the Mexican population highlighted the profound negative impact, both on their mood and on their satisfaction with life, the physical aggressions and their origin.

According to the survey, 10.5% of the literate adult population suffered a physical assault at some point in the 12 months prior to the interview.

While in 4.5 million cases the violence came from an unknown person; 3.9 million suffered it from someone they know, but do not cohabit and 3.3 million from someone they cohabit with.

Again, women indicated that they suffered greater violence from acquaintances or people with whom they cohabit; For their part, men contribute more cases of physical aggression from strangers.

In specific aspects, Enbiare adds that for the adult population in Mexico, citizen security (6.58), public services (6.71) and the country (7.23) are the areas in which they feel least satisfied.

In confidence, institutions such as political parties (3.53), the Municipal Police (3.87) and public officials (3.99), obtained a lower rating. While the institutions with higher averages of trust are the Army and Navy (6.47) as well as the National Guard (5.63).
