3 out of 10 people imprisoned in Mexico are still awaiting sentence

27.8% people who are in the jails Federal and local authorities in Mexico are neither guilty nor innocent because they are still awaiting their sentence; about 0.2% of people do not know or do not declare their legal status and 72.0% already have a sentence, according to figures from ENPOL (National Survey of Population Deprived of Liberty) 2021 of Inegi.

These figures reflect a modest improvement over the last statistical survey in 2016.

Additionally, about 40% of the population deprived of liberty that does not have a sentence has been in prison for more than two years without your process moving forward.
