21 new COVID-19 cases reported in the Waterloo region on Tuesday | The Canadian News

Waterloo Public Health reported 21 new positive tests for the coronavirus on Tuesday, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in the area to 20,914.

This reduces the seven-day average number of new cases per day to 24.7. Just a week ago, that number was 33.4.

Another 25 people were also eliminated from the virus, bringing the total number of resolved cases in the region to 20,374.

No new COVID-19-related deaths have been reported in the area over the past five days, leaving the death toll at 307, including four victims in November.

This means that the number of active cases of COVID-19 is falling again, since it has fallen again to 231. Just a week ago it was at 250.

Among the active cases are 11 people in area hospitals as a result of COVID-19, including five in need of intensive care.

The number of active outbreaks has also decreased as those of the Apolistic Faith Mission in Kitchener and an unnamed gym have come to an end.

At the other end of the chain, Waterloo Public Health reports that there have now been 927,826 vaccinations in the Region, which is 1,729 more than it reported on Monday.

Additionally, 454,055 area residents are now fully vaccinated, just 184, though that was enough to push the area to 75.04 percent fully vaccinated.

Elsewhere, Ontario reported three new COVID-19-related deaths on Tuesday, as the death toll in the province reached the grim milestone of 10,000 since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 687 new cases of COVID-19 were also reported Tuesday. The total number of provincial cases now stands at 618,490.

According to Tuesday report, 94 cases were recorded in Toronto, 71 in Windsor-Essex, 60 in the Peel region, 57 in Simcoe Muskoka and 47 in the Halton region. All other local public health units reported fewer than 45 new cases in the provincial report.
