Stock market: markets open in scattered order Thursday

MARKET REVIEW. The New York Stock Exchange traded in loose order minutes after opening Thursday, amid disappointing weekly jobless listings in the United States.

The Toronto Stock Exchange lost a few points at the opening due to mixed results in various sectors. That of health care showed the biggest drop at the start of the session.

The clues

In Toronto, the S & P / TSX was down 27 points, or 0.14%, to 20,082 points.

In New York, the S&P 500 gleaned 1 point, or 0.04%, at 4,360 points.

The Dow jones lost 50 points, or 0.15%, to 34,747 points.

The Nasdaq increased by 42 points, or 0.29%, to 14,674 points.
