OH THOSE OLYMPICS

So now the wisdom of the Olympic management team is beginning to show itself. They have made the announcement that the winners of the Tokyo Olympics will have to put on the medals for themselves. Another suggestion: 1. All contact sports, only their shadows will participate, but at a safe distance. 2. Condoms. Yes, what about condoms? Olympic Flash: 150,000 condoms will be delivered, but only as a parting gift. More than 11,000 athletes are expected. Wow, I hope your shadows know this. There will be no canoodling in the Olympic Village.

(The wisdom of going ahead with the Olympics will be questioned in the years to come. But we sincerely hope that all goes well. The athletes have continued to train in advance)

WHAT DOUG PARTY?

Re “Premier says there are no vax passports or mandatory vaccinations in Ontario” (Antonella Artuso, July 16): Quo Vadis, Doug? Every day since the onset of COVID, he has relied on everyone’s GPS except the one he was chosen for. From his libertarian stance in March 2020 of going South for fun to his socialist shutdowns and shutdowns for “no vaccine passport,” he has become so aimless that I wouldn’t be surprised if he ran for re-election as a liberal green socialist. because for the last year and a half, you’ve been anything but a progressive conservative!

(There is a lot of anger directed at Ford, but as he repeatedly told us, he listened to what the doctors told him)

TIME TO DECIDE

Some of the most dangerous healthcare environments are often said to exist in the doctor’s waiting room or in a hospital, as sick people congregate there. Some countries are demanding that their health workers be vaccinated, that is, without vaccination, without work. Given that health is under provincial jurisdiction in Canada, the decision to push for this mandate rests with the current Ford government, which appears to be locked into a precautionary mode prior to the elections (“do not say or do anything wrong”). My partner is currently receiving chemotherapy at Princess Margaret Hospital, and we would like to feel that the health workers who treat her and any outside workers do not pose a risk to her health. This should not be a political decision or based on “individual freedom”. The world is still emerging from a pandemic that has had an immense effect on our lives, and we are not yet dry and at home. So Doug Ford, step up and make a decision.

I HAVE PAID MY FAIR SHARE

After reading all the letters and opinions from both the general public and your regular editorial contributors, I have to wonder why I, as an older person, should have to pay for childcare with my taxes. I have paid enough to the system with over 50 years of employment. When we had our families, we did not receive handouts from the government for childcare, we took care of our own. Bottom line: If you need a parenting brochure, don’t.
