In Madrid, the anger of anti-fascist militants against the holding of a meeting of the Vox party

Violent clashes erupted in Madrid. On one side, the police, on the other anti-fascist militants who came to protest against the holding of a meeting of the far-right party Vox before the early elections scheduled in less than a month in the Spanish capital.

Assessment of this violence: two arrests and about fifteen wounded including a member of the Vox party hit in the hand by a stone.

At the origin of the anger: the presence of Santiago Abascal, leader of the Vox party, in the district of Vallecas, a disadvantaged district of Madrid. The choice of this place was perceived as a provocation by the inhabitants who are mostly opposed to far-right ideas.

Third political force in the country, the Vox party allowed the right to regain power in Madrid in 2019 through an alliance with the Popular Party and Ciudadonos. But the resignation a month ago of the president of the region, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, from the PP, has reshuffled the cards. Voters are called to the polls on May 4.
