The Podemos candidate for the Presidency of the Community of Madrid, Pablo Iglesias, has proposed this Thursday to withdraw all aid to bullfighting and close the Center for Bullfighting Affairs in Madrid.
Iglesias has made this approach during a visit to the Animal Protection Center of Rivas-Vaciamadrid carried out together with the General Director of Animal Rights of the Government, Sergio garcia, and the mayor of Rivas, Pedro del Cura, among others.
Iglesias, who has not previously summoned the online media about what he has been doing in his pre-campaign acts, has proposed that the Community of Madrid advance in the protection of animals, as happened in the Government with the creation of the 1st Directorate General for Animal Rights.
In addition, the candidacy of United We can propose to allocate greater resources to animal protection centers.
Ayuso, in Las Ventas
In parallel to this act and these statements, the Las Ventas bullring paid tribute to the bullfighter Victor Barrio, who died in Teruel in 2016, with a ceramic mural by the Sevillian painter Luis Gordillo, who returns “the respect and affection” that he always showed for the Madrid bullring.
In the act was precisely the rival of Iglesias on 4-M, the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Diaz Ayuso, in addition to the mayor of Madrid, Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida.
Díaz Ayuso’s bet is diametrically opposite to that of Iglesias. In fact, it has announced an agreement to promote 18 bullfighting festivals in municipalities with less than 8,000 inhabitants, events currently stopped due to the situation of the pandemic.
After visiting the Las Ventas bullring, he explained that the Governing Council gave the green light this Wednesday to the signing of the collaboration agreement between the Community of Madrid and the Toro de Lidia Foundation to launch the Fiesta del Toro 2021- 2022, endowed with 900,000 euros.
