More than 800 job protection plans initiated since March

Since the start of the coronavirus crisis in March, the number of job protection plans (PES) has continued to increase, with 804 PES initiated, against 428 over the same period last year, according to data published by the Ministry of Labor on Thursday.

In total, since March 1, 2020 and on January 17, 84,130 breaches of employment contracts are envisaged within the framework of PSE, indicates the statistics department (Dares). This is almost three times more compared to 2019 (30,562 over the same period).

The drop in hiring of young people “much less marked” than in the spring

La Dares notes that after a break in the last two weeks of December, with less than 10 procedures on average per week, the number of PES initiated started to rise again during the first half of January, with an average of 20 cases. weekly. The number of planned breaches of contract increases as a result, going from 620 in the weeks of December 21 and 28 to 2,040 in the next two, more than three times more.

Since March 2020, 6,100 collective redundancy procedures (excluding PSE) have also been notified. In more than nine out of ten cases, they concern dismissals of less than 10 employees. The Dares also notes that the drop in the hiring of young people is “much less marked” at the end of the second confinement than the first.

Nearly 3 million employees on short-time work in November

During the month of December 2020, “the number of hires under 26 years old on CDI and CDD for more than three months is 27% lower than its level of December 2019”. The decline had been 58% between the months of May 2019 and 2020.

Regarding partial unemployment, the Dares estimates that 2.9 million employees were affected in November after 1.8 million in October. At its peak in April, 8.4 million employees were concerned. Estimates for December will be released at the end of January.
