Vigilant, defensive, realistic – we will intervene in 2021!

The only thing really new to the New Year is the calendar. Otherwise we will more or less take everything with us from the old year: health like illness, debts like claims, worries like hopes. Nevertheless, we make good resolutions to change, improve and achieve this and that. We often give up most of these noble intentions in the course of January – but don’t forget: Now is the time to look ahead and make new resolutions. Here are a few suggestions – without claim to completeness and without guarantee for possible side effects.

Be realistic: The world will not end in 2021 either. Nor will milk and honey suddenly flow in the next year. Likewise, Germany cannot save the world climate single-handedly. By the way: It usually never turns out as bad as the pessimists fear, and it never turns out to be as “great” as we all would like it to be.

Practice solidarity: Demanding solidarity from others is easier than practicing it yourself. Covid-19 will continue to affect our lives in 2021. It is not only sensible to observe the AHA rules and to be vaccinated: It is practiced solidarity towards fellow citizens and active consideration for doctors and nurses.

Not everyone who talks weird stuff is a “Nazi”

Be vigilant and defensive: Democracy must be defended every day – against right-wing and left-wing radicals. But danger threatens not only from the political fringes, which are mutually uplifting their opposition to democracy and the rule of law. Nor must we lose sight of the Islamist terrorists. The number of these “religious warriors”, ready to be killed at any time, is growing.

Watch out for fraudulent labels: Many media, above all the public broadcasters, are increasingly turning the message into a comment using a “politically correct” choice of words. Mindfulness is required. When a violent criminal becomes an “activist”, it is usually a left-wing radical or an environmental fanatic who risks the lives of others to save trees. “Right” is often equated with conservative = CDU / CSU = AfD = NPD = right-wing radicals. By the way: Not everyone who talks weird stuff is a “Nazi”. The inflationary use of the term “Nazi” only plays down the terrible crimes of the Nazi regime and its willing helpers.

Wealth tax threatens the backbone of our economy

Don’t forget the topic of integration: Despite the decline in the number of refugees, we are faced with unsolved problems here. The “parallel societies” that have just emerged in large cities endanger the unity of our country; clan crime is an open attack on our rule of law. We have to pave the way for immigrants willing to integrate, especially their children. In relation to seriously criminal “families”, only the harshness of the law is the right answer, not multicultural trivialization.

Don’t give in to the envy complex: Let us not be persuaded that the “rich” are invariably lazy heirs and that normal employees are cheated out of the wages of their efforts. The greater fortunes in this country are not in ostentatious villas and outrageously expensive yachts. They are in the roughly three million family businesses that employ 60 percent of all employees. Anyone who wants to cup the “rich” with a wealth tax or wealth levy is endangering the backbone of our economy.

Do not confuse hardship with hate

Intervene politically: Democracy thrives on citizens who interfere. So we do it. Let’s give our opinion, let’s let our MEPs know what we think they are doing wrong, but also what they are doing right. Let us resist the temptation to condemn “the politicians” as incapable, lazy and greedy. Anyone who thinks they can do better should go from the stands to the field. Take courage.

In the super election year 2021, stay calm: There is a lot going on in six state elections and the federal election in September. Whether it comes to black-green, green-red-red or red-red-green: Each of these coalitions will change the country noticeably. That is why we are facing a very polarizing, very heated election campaign. It is all the more important that the voters stay cool, do not confuse harshness in the dispute with hatred, do not see the enemy in the political opponent – and last but not least: do not forget the common ground between the Democrats.

The way to the hell is paved with good intentions

Giving the state what the state is: Whoever cheats with the tax return, who deliberately cheats the tax office, does not harm the tax authorities. He cheats on his friends and neighbors, who honestly pay their taxes and duties. Always remember: there is no other people who pays taxes for us. We have to do that ourselves. Not with great joy, but with decency.

Appreciate what you have. Despite all the difficulties, our country is doing well, in fact significantly better than most other countries. The economic basis is solid, the welfare state intact, democracy works. Nowhere is it written that it will always stay that way. But you can also enjoy what you have achieved.

With this in mind: Happy New Year! Stay positive and tested negative.

PS: There is something to the sentence “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”. But wouldn’t the road to hell be even shorter without good resolutions, i.e. without constant effort?
