Ali Shamkhani, secretary of the Supreme Security Council of Iran, said in the middle of the funeral of scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, that Israel had used “electronic devices” to assassinate “from a distance” the important director of Iran’s AMAD program.

According to The Associated Press, the defense minister promised to continue the work of the deceased “with more speed and more energy.” Israel, long suspected of killing several Iranian nuclear scientists in the past decade, has declined to comment on the attack.

Fakhrizadeh ran the Iranian AMAD program, which Israel and the West viewed as a military operation that aimed to build a nuclear weapon.

According to the AP report, the International Atomic Energy Agency said that “structured program” ended in 2003.

In this regard, the US intelligence agencies said they agreed with the completion of the project, in a statement issued in 2007.

They point out that Iran’s nuclear program “is peaceful”

Israel insisted that Iran continues to have ambitions to develop nuclear weapons, pointing to the country’s ballistic missile program and its research into other technologies. Iran has long maintained that its nuclear program is peaceful, according to the AP.

Samkhani’s statements drastically changed the official version of Fakhrizadeh’s murder last Friday. At first, authorities said a truck had exploded and later gunmen shot dead the scientist.
