Thanksgiving proclamation. While President-elect Joe Biden called to stay home and exercise precautions this Thanksgiving, President Donald Trump called on Americans to “come together” to celebrate the holiday.
According to the annual proclamation of Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving Day of the White House, the president invited Americans to meet today despite the increase in COVID-19 infections that are going through the country.
“I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, hereby proclaim Thursday, November 26, 2020, as a National Day of Action. Thanks, ”reads proclamation of the White House.
“I encourage all Americans to come together, in homes and places of worship, to offer a prayer of thanks to God for our many blessings,” concludes the communication issued by the Office of the White House Press Secretary on the night of Wednesday.
For his part, Biden in his Thanksgiving message invited us to unite as a nation and highlighted the importance of staying home on this day, the most familiar holiday of the year in the United States, using his own case as an example.
“We are going to have a separate Thanksgiving Day. Jill (his wife) and I will be at our home in Delaware with our daughter and son-in-law. The rest of the family will do the same in small groups ”, he explained.
“I know it is difficult to abandon family traditions,” he acknowledged. Our country is in the midst of a dramatic rebound in cases, with an average now of 160,000 new cases every day, it would not be a surprise if we reached 200,000 in a single day. Many health systems are at risk of saturation, “he added.
Likewise, Biden encouraged citizens to use a face mask, maintain social distance and, if they meet, do so in small groups until there is a vaccine against COVID-19, reported the Efe agency.
