Vasek Pospisil fails in qualifying

The Canadian Vasek Pospisil was unable to reach the main draw of the Masters category tournament at Paris-Bercy on Sunday.

Indeed, he was defeated in three sets by the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics, 4-6, 7-6 (3) and 6-2, during the last round of the qualifying phase.

Pospisil, 81e in the ATP standings, however, had started the duel well, but saw his opponent increase his level of play during the second and third rounds. The meeting lasted 2 h 43 min.

The British Columbian slammed nine aces and committed six double faults, while his rival hit five aces but totaled eight double faults.

Fucsovics was the first seed in qualifying.

Two other maple leaf players will be in action during this competition. Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime, 14e favorite, will cross swords with the Croatian Marin Cilic. For his part, Ontarian Milos Raonic, 10th seed, will meet Slovenian Aljaz Bedene. Both matches will take place on Monday.
