Formula 1: Race in Imola (start 1:10 p.m.)
Starting grid: 1. Bottas, 2. Hamilton, 3. Verstappen, 4. Gasly, 5. Ricciardo, 6. Albon, 7. Leclerc, 8. Kvyat, 9. Norris, 10. Sainz, … 14. Vettel
Sunday, November 1st, 8:25 am: Good morning, dear Formula 1 fans, for the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola. It starts today at 1:10 p.m.!
Title series: Mercedes can plan the first World Cup party of the year. If everything doesn’t go wrong, the industry leader wins the Constructors’ Championship for the seventh time in a row in Imola. That would be a record. During the era with Michael Schumacher, Ferrari once cleared the team championship six times in a row.
A fourth place from Bottas or Hamilton would be enough for Mercedes to remove the slightest remaining doubts about the title. “We’ll just tell the drivers to go full throttle and deliver a tough race – they know everything else themselves,” said team principal Toto Wolff.
Conqueror: No one has won on more different Formula 1 circuits than Lewis Hamilton. The Briton was already the first to cross the finish line on 28 courses, and Imola could be number 29. Michael Schumacher achieved his 91 victories on 23 different slopes.
This year, Hamilton continued to build on his lead in this statistic when he won the routes in Mugello and Portimao, which were added to the program for the first time. Now the 35-year-old wants to use Imola’s comeback after 14 years.
Torment: Sebastian Vettel and this Ferrari – it won’t be great love anymore. Again it was only enough for 14th place in the qualification. And because overtaking is pretty difficult in Imola, the Hessian has to be prepared for another afternoon of frustration.
In addition, there is the suspicion that team-mate Charles Leclerc receives the better material from the Scuderia. “I acknowledge the performance that Charles is bringing at the moment. I feel it myself the most that I can not get there at the moment,” said Vettel.
Memory: The drive through the Tamburello curve is still associated with a dark hour in Formula 1’s history. In 1994 Ayrton Senna gave his life here. Many a driver visited the Senna statue in the park near the track during these days, pausing briefly at the fence with the fan posters for the Brazilian legend.
Pierre Gasly had his helmet specially painted in Senna’s colors – and with fourth place on the grid equalized his best result so far. “He was one of my idols, that’s why it was important to me,” said the Frenchman, who recently won an Italian race in Monza.
For the first time since 2006, a Formula 1 race is taking place in Imola – Corona makes it possible. In the last edition so far, Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher won.
Bottas takes pole in Imola – Vettel on P14
The essentials in brief: Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas has secured first place on the grid for the Formula 1 race in Imola. The World Cup runner-up was 0.097 seconds faster than his team-mate Lewis Hamilton in qualifying on Saturday. For the Finn it is the 15th pole position of his career.
Before the 13th round of the season on Sunday, Bottas is already 77 points behind the leading world champion Hamilton in the world championship classification. The Dutchman Max Verstappen starts third in the Red Bull in the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna. Sebastian Vettel did not get past 14th place in the start chase.

2:59 p.m .: It’s about the pole! Hamilton against Verstappen! What is Verstappen doing? Can he also attack again at the front?
2:57 p.m .: It’s out for the top 10. 150 seconds left!
2:55 p.m .: All drivers are currently in the pits. Five minutes left in Q3!
2:53 p.m .: Leclerc is clearly the better Ferrari again today. He is currently fighting for the top five, while team-mate Vettel will start the race from 14th on the grid tomorrow.
2:51 p.m .: The first laps of all ten drivers are through. Mercedes continues to dominate, Hamilton currently has pole, Verstappen follows in 3rd place. So a current intermediate result, which could also mean the starting line-up in a few minutes.
2.48 p.m.: Into Q3!
Result Q2: 1st Bottas, 2nd Hamilton, 3rd Gasly, 4th Albon, 5th Ricciardo, … 14th Vettel
2.40 p.m.: No! It is not enough for the jump into the top 10. Vettel is thrown out in Q2. With him, Perez, Ocon, Russell and Stroll are no longer there.
2.39 p.m .: Vettel is on one last fast lap. Can the Heppenheimer do it?
2.36 p.m .: The gaps between rank 4 (Vettel) and rank 11 (Albon) are insanely close. Vettel is still in 12th place. It has to improve now. Two more minutes
2.33 p.m .: The top time so far is Bottas, just ahead of Hamilton and Gasly. Mercedes also dominates Q2 here.
2.31 p.m .: On the other hand, Verstappen has big problems. He shouts “no power” over the radio several times. Annoyed, he drives into the pits with no lap time.
2:28 p.m .: The AlphaTauris are still really strong. Vettel has to fight. The current times suggest that he will be kicked out in Q2.
2:25 p.m.: Let’s continue with Q2!
Result Q1: 1st Hamilton, 2nd Bottas, 3rd Verstappen, 4th Leclerc, 5th Gasly, … 13th Vettel
2:19 p.m.: That’s it with Q1: Grosjean, Magnussen, Räikkönen, Latifi and Giovinazzi are out.
2:17 p.m .: Bottas needed a second set of tires, but is now in second place behind Hamilton as befits his standing. So Mercedes once again up front.
2.15 p.m .: Vettel has to fight right here. The Heppenheimer is in 15th place in the final phase of Q1. But then a good lap from the Ferrari driver. He moves up to 8th place. However, the gaps are very close.
2:13 p.m .: Bottas had to break off his first fast lap due to traffic. His second lap will be deleted due to track limits. Currently he would be out. But the Finn will be back in a moment.
2.10 p.m .: The AlphaTauris are really fast on this route. In addition to Kwjat, Gasly is also involved. Hamilton is now ahead of Verstappen and Leclerc.
2:07 p.m .: Leclerc takes more than a second off Vettel in his second round. In general, a strong time from the Ferrari driver, who takes the lead ahead of Hamilton.
2:04 p.m .: There’s a lot going on right away! Surprisingly strong lap from Kvyat. Even Verstappen doesn’t beat his time. Vettel is also on the track and is currently in 7th place. Now the Mercedes are coming out.
2.00 p.m .: Let’s start with Q1!
1:43 p.m .: Qualifying starts here in a good 15 minutes. The Weather is still good.
The essentials in brief: Lewis Hamilton set the fastest lap in Formula 1’s only practice before the Imola Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver relegated Red Bull driver Max Verstappen to second place with a 0.297 second lead. Third was Valtteri Bottas from Finland in the second Silver Arrow. Due to the high level of stress in the Corona emergency season, Formula 1 completely dispensed with the usual training laps on Friday and only allowed the teams one 90-minute practice session before qualifying on Saturday afternoon.
Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel finished twelfth in training. Previously, the Hessian had two fast laps canceled because he was illegally off the track.
Die Top 10: Hamilton, Verstappen, Bottas, Gasly, Leclerc, Ricciardo, Ocon, Kvyat, Albon Stroll. Vettel is twelve.
More about Formula 1
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen late apologizes to Lance Stroll for his wild choice of words at the training crash in Portimao. The Dutchman stamps his opponent after the strange and unnecessary collision as “disabled idiots” and “Mongo”.
From 2023 there should be a budget ceiling for the teams in Formula 1. Accordingly, the two drivers of a racing team will only earn 30 million euros together. Lewis Hamilton doesn’t care about that – as long as he signs his new contract soon.
