The Berlin police and the federal police drew a positive interim assessment of their joint large-scale corona controls on Saturday evening – at least for the first few hours. About 80 to 90 percent of Berliners and guests wore their mouth and nose protection and kept the required safety distances, according to a joint press release. Towards evening, however, it was apparent that the acceptance of wearing mouth and nose protection was visibly decreasing.
In a first stage, compliance with the Infection Protection Ordinance was checked from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., especially on weekly markets, shopping streets and in green areas. Around 1000 police officers should be on duty during the day, half from the federal police. Surf tip: You can find all the news about the coronavirus in the news ticker of FOCUS Online
Fetish party with 600 guests dissolved
In the evening, the focus was on restaurants, bars as well as green and recreational areas, especially in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Mitte and Neukölln. But also in Weißensee numerous police cars drove up on Berliner Allee. During a local inspection, the officers found far too many people and far too few masks, but drugs on the toilet, as they tweeted. In Mitte they broke up a fetish party with about 600 guests and sent them home.
During the day, people without a mask almost invariably followed the officers’ requests and covered their mouths and noses. A total of 23 administrative offense proceedings had to be initiated in the case of unteachable persons who did not want to protect themselves or who did not have mouth and nose protection with them. The emergency services initiated five criminal investigations, among other things for insult and resistance as well as forgery of documents.
30 people deliberately do without masks
During the day, the main focus of the controls were, in addition to Karl-Marx-Strasse, Schloßstrasse, Friedrichstrasse, Alexanderplatz and the areas around Tauentzienstrasse, where KaDeWe is also located. 50 people were found in a snack bar in Sonnenallee, but only one person was on the list to follow up on guests in the event of infection. Administrative offense proceedings were initiated against the operator, and the other people present were warned.
Around 30 people who deliberately did without mouth and nose protection and were traveling on the U5 underground line were later stopped by emergency services after leaving the ring center in Frankfurter Allee. Her identity has been established, administrative offense proceedings have been initiated against five, and a report of trespassing has been made.
