The foregoing despite the expiration today of the UN arms embargo on the Islamic Republic as reported by the Efe Agency.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said: “The United States is preparing to use its domestic authorities to sanction any individual or entity that materially contributes to the supply, sale or transfer of conventional arms to or from Iran.”
“As well as those who provide technical training, financial support, services or other assistance related to these weapons,” warned the US Foreign Minister, Mike Pompeo, in a statement, according to the Efe Agency.
“For the past ten years… countries have avoided selling weapons to Iran under various UN measures. Any country that now defies this arms ban will be choosing very clearly to fuel conflict and tension over promoting peace and security, ”added Mike Pompeo.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Yavad Zarif called this Sunday a “triumph for the cause of multilateralism” the end of the arms embargo against his country that the United States tried to increase without success.
“A momentous day for the international community, it has protected resolution 2231 and the JCPOA (nuclear agreement),” Zarif wrote on his official Twitter account.
UN resolution 2231, which validated the 2015 nuclear agreement, included the end of the embargo on October 18, 2020. However, Washington advocated for its extension indefinitely, a proposal rejected on August 14 by August 13. the 15 members of the Security Council.
