The leaders of the main political parties, associations and unions will demonstrate on Sunday at 3 p.m. in Paris, Place de la République, and in many other cities including Lyon, Toulouse, Strasbourg, Nantes or even Marseille, Lille and Bordeaux.

The boss of La République en Marche, Stanislas Guerini, the leader of La France insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the boss of the Socialist Party, Olivier Faure, and that of Europe-Ecology-Les Verts, Julien Bayou, notably announced their participation. . Their respective political parties also called for joining the rallies. Former Prime Minister Manuel Valls will also be present.

Charlie Hebdo joins the call

The Charlie Hebdo newspaper also joined the appeal in the capital. Place de la République, a traditional venue for demonstrations in Paris, was the epicenter of the huge parade of January 11, 2015 after the Charlie Hebdo and Hyper Hide attacks, which gathered around 1.5 million participants. .

The Paris police headquarters authorized a gathering scheduled for Sunday at Place de la République in Paris on Saturday. The call was initiated by SOS Racisme, FSU, Sgen-CFDT, Unsa-Education, SNALC, FCPE, FIDL (high school union) FAGE, UEJF and “Dessinez Create Liberty” after the assassination Friday of this professor who had shown caricatures of Muhammad to his students.

There will be no ban on this gathering, said the police headquarters. “I understand this initiative, I adhere to it. According to BFMTV, in addition to Jean-Michel Blanquer, Marlène Schiappa will also be present at the event organized in Paris this Sunday.

“Beyond this gathering, we call on our local representations to organize initiatives in the coming days”, wrote the associations at the origin of this call. In order to “say that we think of Samuel Paty and his bereaved relatives”, “to say that teachers must be supported in the exercise of their profession”, to say “that we are attached to freedom of expression and that we reject extremist and obscurantist logic, ”they stressed in particular.
