- Undercover Police Officer Posing as 17-Year-Old Girl on Mobile Dating App
This is Miguel Cabrera, 38, who pleaded not guilty last Friday to the felony charges of meeting with a minor for lewd purposes and distributing pornography to a minor.
Cabrera allegedly met an undercover police officer posing as a 17-year-old girl on a mobile dating app in October 2019.
Among the charges he is accused of is making arrangements to meet with the girl and then appear at the agreed place, where he was arrested by detectives after the meeting, on October 21, 2019.
The sheriff’s Office of Internal Criminal Investigations continues to investigate Cabrera’s conduct, authorities said.
In a statement Friday, the Sheriff’s Department said the investigation reflected Sheriff Alex Villanueva’s “commitment to transparency and accountability.”
“This case originated, was thoroughly investigated and was submitted to the district attorney’s office for our department to prosecute. We remain committed to transparently holding our staff accountable while providing safety and security to the communities we serve, ”the statement said.
Cabrera, who was placed on leave after his arrest, is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center on November 18.
If convicted of the charges, Cabrera could face up to four years and eight months in state prison.
