A 15-year-old Sunderland boy was killed and six other teens were injured when a pickup truck rolled over north of the city early Sunday morning.

Durham Regional Police say seven children, ages 15 to 17, were in the Chevrolet Sierra pickup when it crashed on Sideline Rd. 18 near Brock Concession Rd. 9, in Brock Township, around 12:40 am
“(The 16-year-old girl from Sunderland who was driving the van) lost control, ran off the road and into a ditch,” said Det.-Const. Brett Rayne said in a statement released Sunday. “Four of the occupants were ejected during the rollover.”
“One of the occupants, a 15-year-old from Sunderland was fatally injured as a result of the collision,” he added.
Rayne said the other six occupants were transported to local hospitals and then flown to trauma centers in Toronto.
“Two are currently in critical condition, the other four are now in serious but stable condition,” he said.
A few hours later, around 4:10 am, Rayne said a male driver was killed when his vehicle crashed into a tree “at high speed” and burst into flames on Howden Rd. – near Harmony Rd. – in Oshawa. .
“Officers attended the area and discovered a damaged blue 2021 Honda Civic against a tree and completely engulfed by fire,” he said. “The only occupant and driver of the vehicle who remained inside the vehicle spoke at the scene.”
Investigators could not immediately confirm the identity of the driver.
